Last weekend, I got the 60 gallon tank ready for the
hermit crabs to move. I waited until they both surfaced and over they
went.
Hermie immediately (same day) buried himself and Tiny
has been burying but resurfacing to drink a ton of salt water. I have
to replenish it pretty much every day. I am keeping a watch on them,
checking each day to make sure the humidity and heat are staying at the
recommended levels and making sure there is a fresh supply of food and
both salt and fresh water in their bowls. I hope they are enjoying
their new home. They have a ton of new space to roam. When I see that
they are both active again, I will try to come up with some second level
contraptions they can climb on.
Side Note: Tiny has
changed from her original shell into the green smooth chipped shell.
This seems to be a comfortable shell for the hermits since there is
always someone occupying it at any given time.
Right now I have a coconut fiber wall with a couple of plastic climbing
branches secured together to give them something to climb on.

Update on Tiny & Hermie
Tiny
changed shells.
Hermie is still buried. Checked on him yesterday and he looks soon ready to surface. :-)
Tiny changed back into her original shell 03/13/16 and reburied.

Goodbye Melly
Melly
didn’t make it. She died. I buried her in one of my potted plants under the
carport.

Melly is in distress
Hermie is still buried.
Tiny is roaming about the tank. For the past few days, I have noticed that Melly wasn't doing a lot of moving around. She'd be in the same spot morning and night. Tonight, I noticed she was out of her shell! I tried to coax her back into it after rinsing it out but she just crawled right back out into her hiding place under the coconut fiber on the castle. Maybe the spiked shell is uncomfortable or too big to manage, so I got a smaller green one and tapped her claws gently until she backed up all the way inside of it. I placed it under the coconut fiber where she was hiding and turned out the lights to give her a break. I hope she's still in her home tomorrow. I'm not sure what's going on with that. :(

Melly & Tiny
Melly- Found her wandering about the
cage last night. She must be back from
her molt. I did find remnants of exoskeleton in the sand. The claws appear to
be big enough to be from her. She is in a spiked shell now.
Tiny- As I was
cleaning out the tank last night, I found her inside of the castle. Last I had
checked, a few weeks ago, she was buried. I’m not sure how long she’s been
above ground. I am going to keep watch over them for the next week to see who
stays and who goes back down. She is
still in the small shell she came to me in from Melinda.

Hermit Crab Patch Sand
I
received sand from The Hermit Crab Patch so I put some of that inside of the
tank, leaving the old sand covering Hermie since he’s still molting.
